True first edition published in NY in 1952. Second printing (with Scribner colophon on copyright page, but missing letter A). In a later-print (1970s), clipped dust wrapper. Sized 14 × 20.2 cm. Pp. 140. Hemingway's final work of fiction and among his best-known works, The Old Man and the Sea was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953, and was cited by the Nobel Committee in their awarding of Hemingway's Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. Publisher's original sea-blue cloth binding with silver lettering to spine and Hemingway's signature blind-stamped on the front board. Lightest wear and tanning to extremities and spine. Binding nice and square with joints and hinges intact. Light mark to fore edge and pages 48-49. Otherwise a very neat, smart-looking example with fine crisp, clean pages that are only lightly toned. In an overall clean, albeit toned and and sporadically marked, dust wrapper, with nibbling to extremities and a few small repairs done on the inside with archival-grade tape. Now protected in a clear sleeve or archival quality. £150- BOUGHT FOR £500 so if you’re a collector you know how much it’s worth. Important: this book does not have an ISBN, as they were introduced later.
